It's a GIRL!!

Big news today.  Through a series of unexpected events, we found out that our baby will be a little GIRL.  Given the earlier Wallgreen's test, Bill and I were both expecting a boy.  I guess this just shows that Clea was totally right about the test -- it probably was a waste of money.  We are nonetheless excited about this news and are still trying to get our heads wrapped around the idea.  I have four brothers, so I suspect that I will need lots of help from all of my sisters-in-laws and the grandmas to help me figure out how to raise a little girl properly.

Today's series of unexpected events go something like this . . .

A few weeks back, one of my sisters-in-law sent me information about a place in Austin that will do elective ultrasounds.  I checked it out and decided that it would make a fun birthday surprise for Bill if we found out the gender of our baby on his birthday (September 12).  The regularly scheduled ultrasound with my doctor wouldn't be for several weeks later.  Anyway, the elective ultrasound required that I obtain my doctor's consent.  I had an appointment today, and was going to get the consent then, but Bill decided to come to the appointment with me.  I called the doc's office to ask what I should do about the consent because I wanted it to be a surprise for Bill.  They said to fax it with a note to the doctor asking him not to mention it at my appointment.  I did.  Today at our appointment, the first thing the doc did was pull the consent out of my file and announce, "so you're going to have one of these fancy elective ultrasounds!" . . . . right in front of Bill.  My surprise was spoiled.  The doc must have felt bad about spoiling the surprise because he then suggested, "how about we just do it right now?"  Turns out that Bill's birthday surprise ended up being MY birthday surprise (today is my birthday).

Here are the photos.  The 3D technology is pretty amazing.  Baby is only 17+ weeks along, so all features are not completely formed, but the doc said that her growth was right in the middle of the normal range for every measurement.  Indications all point to a healthy, normal pregnancy.  The very bottom photo is looking up at her bottom.  It shows, without much room for doubt, that she is a SHE.  Our daughter is apparently not bashful.
