October 4, 2010 I'm way late with this post. I told myself that I was going to try to keep a weekly blog. The idea is that time flies, but memories stand still. I want to document as many of these great memories as I can, but sometimes life and really good times just get in the way. The particular good times that I am referring to in this case was the visit that we had last weekend from Bill's family. In celebration of Dad Kalahurka's 60th Birthday, the whole family surprised him by crashing his birthday trip to Austin. We had a busy, but really fun weekend. One of the highlights was our family team participation in the Austin Marathon Relay. We set up our tent, blankets and camped out at Auditorium Shores all morning while family members completed 5 legs of the marathon distance relay. We had a fun time enjoying the morning and cheering everyone on. Below is a video that Dylan pulled together. Below that are some photos from the Great Kalahurka Birthday Weekend.
We spent most of this weekend just catching up on things around the house and spending some one-on-one time with Amelia. The weather has finally cooled off, so we enjoyed a couple of long stroller walks. Amelia's new things this week are eating goldfish (she especially likes the honey graham variety) and taking a few unassisted steps. My video camera battery is dead, so I that will have to wait until next week, but tonight she took four unassisted steps on her own before lurching forward to grab me. It's still unsteady, but those were definitely independent first steps at a little over 8 and a half months. While it's exciting, it's also a little disconcerting -- this, like crawling, has implications . . . .
