Week 26.

Things are still going very well.  The worst part of the week was when Amelia and I had to go back to the doc's office for more glucose testing.  They have to draw blood 4 times for this test -- which translated to 14 needle attempts for me.  Small veins.  Today, with all of the bruises, I look like some kind of drug addict.

I had to go back for the second test because the results on the first screen were "marginally higher than the normal range."  My thinking is that one should not have to take the initial screen during the week of Halloween when delicious candy corn is so readily available.  We don't have the results from the second test back yet.  My doc said that a lot of women have to come back for the second test and very few actually have gestational diabetes.  Bottom line, the second test was just a precaution and I shouldn't be worried.

On a more exciting note, Bill and I enjoyed another ultrasound today.  We found out some interesting things, like that the placement of the placenta in my case is at the back, and that is why I can see and feel just about every movement Amelia makes from the outside.  We also found out that Amelia likes to snuggle her face against my side.  For this reason, all of the best photos were profiles.  She refused to show us her whole face.  The ultrasound tech did note that her eyes are open (which is supposed to happen in week 26 -- they are fused shut for a couple of months before the 26-week mark).  We also got to watch her opening and closing her mouth.  This is how Amelia practices her breathing.  On the DVD it looks like she is yawning.  Personally, I thought this was especially cute.

Anyway, below are a few of the headshots from the ultrasound.  In the first photo, her mouth is open.  In the last 3D shot, you can see her little hand beneath her chin.

Hope you enjoy seeing Miss Amelia as much as we did.
