Back to Baby Kalahurka Main Page July 14 6 Months Old
Amelia is 6 months old today. I can't tell you how many experienced mothers and grandmothers have admonished me to treasure these precious moments because they will slip away before I'm ready. They say, "One day you open your eyes and your baby is 13. The next day she is getting married!" I'm now old enough to have seen this happen to others -- old enough to remember when cousins were born and to now be attending their graduations and weddings (more on this below). Despite the warnings, it's difficult to imagine Amelia as anything except a baby. But then, 6 months ago, I couldn't imagine her doing the things she is doing now.
I had prepared another blog for this week. I've decided not to post it. It was way too whiny -- focusing too much on some negative things that are going on in my life right now. I've decided instead to listen to all of those other mothers and grandmothers -- to seize the day. So let's talk about Amelia and the other good things. When Amelia reads this someday, I hope that she will see that no matter what negative things are going on at work or elsewhere, she and her Dad are my happy place. My smile. My light. The center of my world.
This past weekend, Bill and I enjoyed a fun trip to San Antonio for my cousin's wedding. We had lunch on the Riverwalk on the way there, and Bill paid a Mariachi band to play my favorite Mariachi song (Guantanamera). Amelia loved it!
As for the wedding -- I can remember when D'Anna was born. The cute and precious little girl has grown into a beautiful young woman. She graduated from Texas A&M, and found a kind, tall, dark and handsome Aggie (Jack). This weekend, she became his wife. Below are some fun photos that I stole from her Dad's Facebook page. Indeed, time does fly!

Other fun times this week included dinner with our friends John, Elizabeth and Nick. While the boys pondered "the probability of random integers being relatively prime," Elizabeth took some more really great photos of Amelia. Here they are (thanks Elizabeth!)
Finally, an Amelia update. At six months, she can roll pretty much wherever she wants to go (including under the bed if you turn your back on her). She played her first practical joke on me last night by rolling up in a little ball in the one corner of the crib where the monitor camera can't see her. For a moment, I thought she'd escaped. I jumped up and ran to her room in the middle of the night only to find that she had been hiding from me.
Amelia also started part-time day-care this week when Bill started his teaching job at UT. I was pretty stressed about the whole idea of her going to day-care, but she seems to love it. There are lots of fun toys and other babies to entertain her. The day-care ladies give her high compliments and she always takes a long nap in the afternoon and is sleeping well at night. I think the stimulation may actually be good for her.
Okay, that's enough for now. I did salvage one positive paragraph from my pervious blog. It's a good one to end on, so here it is:
