Family Fun

I was just thinking back on our weekend, trying to come up with something interesting to write about, and it occurs to me that we didn't really do anything remarkable.  Still, it was very nice.  Full of what I call "family fun."  We started the weekend together by playing "everyone in the family tent" in our bed on Saturday morning.  Amelia thinks it's really funny to come into our bed and make a tent with the covers, but only if everyone is under the tent.  This game always gets big smiles.  Then we got up, and Amelia and I enjoyed a walk with our friends Teresa and Joe (Isaac stayed home with Travis this time).  When we got home, we ate breakfast and took care of some chores around the house.  Amelia enjoys "helping" me with the laundry.  This means that she likes to take the clean clothes out of the basket and to throw them all over the floor before I can get them folded.  She prefers the basket to be empty so that she can turn it over and beat on it like a drum.

After chores, we took a family shopping trip and had lunch out.  Amelia's teacher said that she needs to start transitioning to "table food" at school, so there were a lot of new items on our shopping list.  (This week we've introduced graham crackers, bites of nutra-grain bars and small bits of soy-butter and jelly sandwiches. Yummy!)  After shopping, we came home, put away groceries, had family play time on Amelia's mat, and then bath time and some reading time before bed.  Amelia seemed somewhat interested in the book that Bill read to her -- "That's not MY Dinosaur!"  Then I picked a book that she obviously thought was lame, and so reading time was pretty much over.

On Sunday, Amelia and I had a trip to San Marcos to see Nanny & Paw Paw while Bill watched football with the guys.  After visiting with Nanny and Paw Paw, Amelia and I made it back to Austin just in time to watch the Cowboys beat the Colts in overtime with the Football Insanity guys.  The guys all enjoy showing Amelia how to do "ARMS UP!!!" in true touchdown fashion.  When we got back home, we enjoyed some delicious chicken & dumplings that had been cooking up in the slow cooker all day.  There's nothing better than coming home from a long day to the smell of a delicious, ready-to-eat crock-pot creation.

As you can now see, we didn't do anything out of the ordinary this weekend.  You're probably wondering why I've made you go to the trouble of reading about it.  I guess my point is that, even on these normal days, I feel like we are making some neat family memories.  Amelia won't remember playing in the "family tent" or reading books with Dad, but they are still pretty happy times.  We are fortunate to have each other and also the time to spend together.

Okay, now for some photos.  These are from Sara Jane's birthday a couple of weeks back.  Ashley threw a "Circus" theme party for all of the kiddos to enjoy -- complete with a big top, games for prizes, and face painting.  Amelia had fun watching the other kiddos and playing in the bounce house.  Definitely an appropriate fit for this week's topic -- Family Fun!
