Toddler bed . . .

When my kids become wild and unruly, I use a nice, safe playpen.  When they're finished, I climb out.  ~Erma Bombeck

Amelia recovered much more quickly, I think, than I did from her bad night last week.  I'm still amazed that she was able to pull herself up and out of her crib.  I'm even more amazed that she didn't hurt herself by diving out head first.  I guess kids really do "bounce."

Bill generously spent much of the very next evening converting her crib into a toddler bed.  We changed up her routine some, and Amelia was much better about taking her milk from a sippy cup for the last two evenings.  She didn't drink nearly as much (and so woke up much earlier during the night).  She really seems to like her new bed though.  The first night, she had fun climbing in and out about 15 times.  She smiled at me, as if to say, "Now THIS is what I like!"  We pulled her giant beanbag up next to the small rail that keeps her from rolling out so that if she goes over there, no problem.  She is also able to get out through the opening in the rail that is for that purpose.  I put a gate on the door to her room, and in the night, she now just gets up, goes to the gate and calls to me.  So far, so good.  The only down side is that her new routine involves her getting to sleep much later -- she needs to be tired enough not to climb right out of the bed when I put her in it.  Consequenly, she's been going to sleep about 1 hour to 1.5 hours later than before.  Unfortunately, this doesn't result in her sleeping later in the mornings or taking a longer nap in the afternoons.  Figures . . . .

We had a busy day today.  Play date with Teresa, Joe and Isaac.  A trip to Freddie's for a laid-back lunch (weather was beautiful).  Home for a nap and then grocery shopping at Target.  When we were almost done with our shopping, Bill pointed out that I had a sizeable hole in the seat of my pants . . . yoga pants that don't require undies.  Uggh.  I've taken frumpy and pregnant to a whole new level.  I just wonder how long the hole has been there?  Did I flash everyone at Freddies this afternoon?  How many covert cell phone photos of my butt crack are posted on the web . . . ?  I'm just glad that Amelia's not old enough yet to be embarrassed by such things, although I'm sure I'll find a way to do my part when that time comes.

Here are this week's photos.  Mostly of Amelia and her new bed.  As you can see, she's also now accepted her sippy cup (or at least with much less protest).  Mommy 1, Ameila 0.5 (she get's a half point for getting us to upgrade to toddler bed).

 Until the next contest . . .
